For that reason, many Japanese people lack knowledge related to the ocean. A lack of knowledge about the ocean and its processes can be expected to cause nemurous problems. In Japan, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology publishes Aquatic Marine Environmental Literacy (AMEL) Principles. Not only scientific knowledge, but also traditional and ecological knowledge were built in the AMEL. Making AMEL Principles can connect between marine science and national science standards.
