For Baudelaire, who finds in the form of androgyny an idealistic model of an artist, emanations from women have a reversibility that restores his inner health. He scatters his self in the feminine world. But endlessness of women's desire terrifies him. He discovers signs of evil in natural desires of\nwomen and combinates desire for sex with that for destruction. Love is, for Baudelaire, like a surgical operation or a duel in which he feels fear of losing his essence. As a dandy, he tries to concentrate his self. To moderate provocative presence of women's flesh, Baudelaire wants to frame woman with jewelry or landscape. Or he sublimates women's presence into memory or spiritual being.
