The fibroblasts were cultured in the presence of vitamin C (20μg/mL) with 0 to 20% deep seawater (DSW) pumped from a depth of 800m (5km offshore) and in surface seawater (SSW) collected directly at the sea surface off Akazawa in Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.\nAs a result, the collagen synthesis rose to 1.1 times in SSW compared with no added SSW.
