At first, focusing on their healthy beauty and wildness, I would like to show how Ama were represented through the ideas of romanticism or classicism in the films from 1945 to 1954, especially in the discourses around The Sound of Waves (Shio-sai). Then, I would like to trace the processes that their erotic and violent figures were arbitrarily extracted from their healthy beauty and wildness and were emphasized on the films from 1955 to 1964, especially on the Kindan-no Suna series by Shochiku Co., Ltd. and “Ama” series by Shin-Toho Co., Ltd.
